Born 15 July 1838 at Llanddewibrefi, Cardiganshire. His family moved to Dowlais, and after working there as a carpenter, he entered the ministry (1864). He was educated at Trevecka College (1866-9), ordained in 1870, and ministered in turn to churches at Deri (1869), Ystalyfera (1871), Treforest (1873), and Pembroke Terrace, Cardiff (1875-1912). For the last fourteen years of his life he was superintendent of the ’ Forward Movement.’ He was moderator of the South Wales C.M. Association in 1902, and twice moderator of the General Assembly (1897 and 1920). He served for many years on the Cardiff School Board, and on the Council of University College, Cardiff, and in 1920 was awarded the honorary degree of LL.D. by the University of Wales. He was at various times editor of Y Lladmerydd, Y Drysorfa, and Y Deonglwr; he published Cofiant David Morgan, Pant, Cefncoedycymer, in 1887, commentaries (in Welsh) on Hebrews, Ephesians, and Acts, Yr Efengylau (’Davies Lecture,’ 1906), Y Tadau Methodistaidd, 1895-7, with W. Morgan, and other works. He died 22 May 1921.
